Love Fresh Cherries This Summer.

Since summer has hit there have been some big changes in our house. Namely, I've started Slimming World properly (1st 2.5lbs down in 4 weeks!) so the whole family are now eating healthier and jumping on the Slimming World bandwagon.

Of course we've all ditched the chocolate (mostly) so we've been on the hunt for quick treats that curb our sweet tooth. Our personal new favourite is cherries, mainly because their super sweet flavour really hits the spot and they are so versatile!

Did you know that cherries aren't just tasty bits of heaven, they are also packed full of vitamin C and are a rich source of melatonin, which helps us get to sleep. Making it the perfect mid afternoon or post dinner snack! For those on Slimming World, they might not be a speed food, but they are a perfect free food to dill yourself up with.

Cherry season runs from June until September, so we always try and stock up and a punnet never lasts much longer than a couple of days in our house. They're the perfect fruit to pop in your mouth when you need that sweet fix. Personally, I tend to de-stone the punnet into a tupperware pot and then it allows Max to snack to his hearts content without me worrying that he might choke.

So far we have tried them with our porridge, with ice cream and just in a fruit salad. But our favourite of all? With slightly frozen yoghurt! It's as simple as popping a Muller Light (or other low fat yoghurt) into the freezer for a couple of hours, then putting it in a bowl with as many fruits as you could want. I love mixing the vanilla and dark chocolate sprinkles yoghurt with the cherry as it has a hint of black forest gateau to it!

To be honest, this is Max's favourite way of eating them too. And he loves helping me de-stone them with our handy tool which is a kitchen must have. It's a great way to get him involved with trying new flavours and fruits and they have now become a firm favourite in our household. I honestly love how much fruit Max eats and little twists on serving like this are the perfect ways to trick our brains into thinking we are having a naughty dessert.

How do you like your cherries? What's the best way that you put them into a recipe? I'd love to know in the comments below!
