Autumn 2018 Theatre Shows: Family Edition

With the nights drawing in and the weather getting colder, there's no better way to spend an evening or afternoon than at the theatre. I'm blown away with the amount of shows that are on offer this autumn/winter and we are truly spoilt for choice. With so much to see, I've split my theatre round up into a family edition and a grown up one too!

But the most important question is.. what are you going to see?

How To Spot An Alien - Lighthouse Poole/Roundabout Festival 28th-30th September

How To Spot An Alien Roundabout Festival

What do you do when you think that your aunt is an alien? When siblings Jelly and Jonjo have their suspicions they head on a quest to discover the truth. This adventure through space is one that is full of fun and friendship (and a space craft too!). This performance will be held in Bournemouth gardens on the Pavilion Dance terrace in conjunction with the Roundabout Festival. It's perfect for kids age 5+ and aliens too!

Private Peaceful - Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre 2-3rd October

Private Peaceful Press Photo UK Tour

Based on the bestselling book by Michael Morpurgo, Private Peaceful tells the tale of Private Tommo Peaceful as he takes his place in World War One. Reliving his childhood memories, you learn about his upbringing, the war and and the injustice that brought him to the front line. Due to the sensitive nature of the show, this performance is aimed at children age 8+.

Wicked - Mayflower Theatre Southampton 3-27th October

Winning over 100 international awards, Wicked is the musical that will blow everyone away. Based on the book, this award winning show tells the untold tale of Glinda and Elphaba and how their unlikely friendship formed before the classic tale we know as the Wizard Of Oz. It's a musical that I've seen many many years ago, and one that I can't wait to go back to go and see! It's worth noting that it's fairly long at 2hrs 45 minutes and not suitable for children under 7 due to some of the content. But I can't wait to defy gravity and watch this popular musical!

The Selfish Giant - New Theatre Royal Portsmouth 24th October

Based on the book by Oscar Wilde, this retelling of The Selfish Giant is perfect for children aged 3-7 and their families. When a huge wall is put up and shuts off the gorgeous gardens that children love to play in, one child wants to know who the selfish giant behind the wall is and why they are spoiling the fun. This adventure is definitely one not to miss!

Shift - Lighthouse Poole 24-25th October

Shift Barely Methodical Troupe

If you are looking for a show that will leave you and your family in awe and speechless, then Barely Methodical Troupe's Shift is one to watch. We've seen their last show which blew us away and this one is set to be even better. With a fantastic blend of acrobatics and dancing, these performers are pushed to their limits and leave you utterly take away with how fantastic their show is. One for all the family.

Shrek The Musical - Mayflower Southampton 27th November- 8th December

You'd better believe that this all singing, all dancing world of fairy tales and ogres is taking to the Mayflower stage. Shrek the Musical is colourful, singalong and perfect for families looking to head to the theatre for their first big musical as it's suitable from ages 5+. Based on the film that we all know and love, it follows Shrek as he heads to rescue Princess Fiona with some unpredictable goings on in between! This is one that Max has been dying to see and I can't wait to take him.
