Singin' In The Rain UK Tour - Mayflower Southampton

Singin' In The Rain is a classic musical that is the stuff of legends. Originally a big screen movie that took the world by storm, this show has been adapted time and time again and wowwed audiences the world over.

Now 70 years since the original film came out, the show is back in stage impressing a new generation of audiences with a stunning UK tour. The show has tap danced its way down to the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton and both myself and Max couldn't wait to dance in the rain as we watched this fantastic show.

Singin' In The Rain is set in the roaring 20's, in an age where Monumental Pictures are trying to break into the world of talking pictures. Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are the Hollywood sweethearts that the press can't stop talking about. But their on screen romance is not one that is reciprocated off screen by Don. And when Don falls for the upcoming star Kathy Selden, they must do anything they can to ensure the movie musical of their dreams is a success, with the help of mastermind Cosmo Brown of course. What ensues in the show is nothing short of classical humour, heartfelt romance, and a timeless story that stands the test of time.

Heading up the cast is Sam Lips and Charlotte Gooch as Don and Kathy, the star crossed lovers that win the hearts of the audience. Charlotte's voice was just sublime, and was a true fitting to the era she was depicting, whilst Sam had the perfect leading man charm that just commanded the stage. His rendition of Singin' In The Rain as the first act closed left Max open mouthed and in awe, a true star that brought the essence of Gene Kelly with a twist of his own.

Jenny Gayner brought the slightly ditzy Linda Lamont to life and honestly couldn't have performed it better. To be able to sing a song perfectly out of key, in a way that still wins the audience over is something of a wonder to see and her comedic timing was nothing short of brilliant. Kevin Clifton was perfectly hilarious as Cosmo Brown, and his performance of Make 'Em Laugh had both myself and Max in fits of laughter. A perfectly cast role in our eyes!

Each number, scene, costume and dance routine is a spectacle. With big lights, gorgeous costumes, a set that transports you back to the 20's, this show is practically perfect in every way. I adored the big numbers, the slower and more sincere scenes, and every member of the ensemble helped bring this show together. Of course the big moment of the evening was the rain that soaks the stage. With over 14,000 litres of water being recycled each night, we ended up a tad wet in our seats as the cast danced in the rain!

Singin' In The Rain is a classic musical that continues to impress audiences time and time again. It's a show that is timeless, and simply sublime. A perfect show for the whole family to enjoy with a blend of humour and show stopping numbers to make those from 9 to 92 smile from start to finish. Both Max and I adored it and couldn't wait to tell everyone about it the moment we stepped out of the theatre.

Singin' In The Rain is on at the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton until 18/6/22 before continuing on its UK Tour. To purchase tickets or for more information follow the link: Singin' In The Rain
