Spooky season is upon us. And with the ghosts and ghouls creeping among us, there's no time like the present to wrap up warm, grab some popcorn and pop on a spooky movie musical to scare and excite those big and small. I've got a selection of some that will get your toes tapping as well as curling!

Rocky Horror Picture Show - An iconic cult classic, Rocky Horror Picture Show is a movie that has its own props list, and costume list to match. When a flat tyre leaves Brad and Janet, an innocent couple, stranded near a spooky castle, they have no idea what will be in store for them. With a soundtrack that is memorable, outlandish and iconic, Rocky Horror Picture Show is a celebration of individuality and self expression. One that is definitely not for young eyes (some suggestive sex scenes and language), this show is perfect for teens and adults alike.

The Nightmare Before Christmas - Is it a Christmas movie or a Halloween one? The classic family friendly tale of a skeleton who's fed up of living through Halloween is a film that has a place in my teenage emo heart. When Jack decides that he wants to recreate Christmas in Halloween town, havoc ensues when he inadvertently kidnaps Santa Claws. With classic songs and brilliant stop animation, this film is the perfect family film for Halloween (or Christmas!)

Little Shop of Horrors - One of my favourite all time musicals, Little Shop of Horrors is the story of a hapless florist who wants to turn his fortune around. The problem being that his attempt is via a human eating, blood sucking plant called Audrey II. With a classic 80's musical soundtrack that will leave you singing and dancing, this horror comedy is perfect for older children and adults alike!

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street - Sweeney Todd is a barber like no other. With a mission to seek vengeance for a crime he did not commit, he opens his barber shop and doesn't let a customer leave his shop. This murderous barber then works with the local pie shop to create a unique taste that unexpectedly becomes a hit with the locals. I must admit that the singing isn't top notch in the 2007 version, but the soundtrack itself more than makes up for it. It's a brilliant horror musical for teens and adults to enjoy. 

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is available to stream on Netflix

Corpse Bride - From the same team that brought you The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride introduces you to Victor, a hopeless romantic who inadvertently marries a ghost when practicing his vows by the grave of Emily. After a whistle stop tour of the underworld, Victor must reach the real world, before it's too late. Corpse Bride is a perfect film for families to watch to introduce them to the spooky season.
