A New Beginning

This week I started a new journey towards a career that I've wanted for such a long time. Working with the Young Women's Trust has lead me to so many new opportunities and this is one I can't wait for. On Monday I started a Community Social Manager course with Digital Mums who will help train me to be a community manager for brands social media accounts.

I've always wanted to work from home, having the flexibility to pick Max up from school and being able to work around day to day chores. Being a full time blogger sounds amazing but in itself is tough and I've seen some friends succeed and some struggle. Having the skills to run social media accounts for brands would be a great way for me to utilise skills I've gained from blogging.

Digital Mums is an amazing company that know that mums want to get into work but find it tough getting the work/life balance. They help train you in the skills that you need to become knowledgeable in one of the fastest growing sectors, digital.

I honestly can't wait to start this part of my journey. Of course I'll be blogging bits as I go along as a diary so I can look back and see how my skills have improved. Wish me luck!

A Busy Week

Last week was one of those weeks that just went on autopilot. I feel like I woke up and all of a sudden it was Sunday. It's been a bit of a whirlwind. Scotts grandad unfortunately passed away just over a week ago, so we've been arranging getting Max looked after so we can attend the funeral (thanks mum!). I'm starting my course and work is just a nightmare.

After a week of sleepless nights (Max has been kicking me out of bed) we decided to take a quiet Saturday. One where we could cuddle up and watch a DVD together. It's so nice to be able to have those moments with Max now he's a bit older. We went for Inside Out and we sat there talking about core memories and that it's okay to have a mixture of emotional memories as that's what makes you the person you grow to be.

Max is such an active soul that we decided to go on an adventure up the high street. We turned our little walk to buy milk into a treasure hunt which was wonderful.

Breakfast at Table Table Lynton Court

Each day we wake up and the weather seems to be getting colder and colder. It leaves you feeling grumpy and lethargic and I know the last thing on my mind is cooking. So on Saturday we woke up, got dressed and bundled in the car to Lynton Court for breakfast.

Lynton Court is part of the Table Table chain of restaurants and is located just outside of Bournemouth town centre next to the Premier Inn. We've been to a Table Table restaurant before and really enjoyed ourselves so we were looking forward to seeing how good their breakfasts fared.

Upon arrival we were amazed by the array of pastries, cereals and drinks laid out on the self serve tables as we were taken to our seat. Scott opted for a full breakfast, whilst I went for a continental one. The best thing is that kids eat free with each paying adult! So for under £20 we all had our run of all the food we could want.

They took Scott and Max's hot food order and whilst it was being cooked we were able to help ourselves to the continental options. There's such a big choice that there is definitely something for everyone. I went for granola with yoghurt and fruit which was absolutely gorgeous! Max picked up a small bowl of cereal and Scott went for some toast.

There's a massive selection of drinks including a variety of different teas and coffee which pleased the boys to no end! Max went for a regular tea (his new favourite breakfast drink, lots and lots of milk required!) and Scott went for coffee as that's his regular breakfast go-to. I went for a cold drink, there was a great choice of juices and smoothies so I went for a berry smoothie which was delicious.

The service throughout was perfect. Our waiter was really attentive and made sure we were happy with all our food and drink whilst ensuring everyone else was being seen too. It made the breakfast that little bit special on a cold and dreary day.

The boys were really impressed with the hot food they had, Scott said that the meat bits were really filling and flavoursome and it was really what he needed on a Saturday morning before work. Max wolfed everything down in what felt like one breath so I take that as a massive positive. In fact I've not seen Max eat that much for breakfast in a long time!

We loved breakfast at Lynton Court. For £8.99 for a full breakfast and £6.99 for a continental and free food for kids you can't complain on the price in the slightest. Especially as you don't have to do the cooking or wash up after! I love the fact that kids are free, Max is normally really fussy so knowing I'm not paying for something he won't eat is great. Scott's already planning our next family breakfast date so it's a big thumbs up from us for Table Table breakfasts.

Thank you Table Table for inviting us for breakfast, we absolutely loved our time and can definitely say we left with full bellies and big smiles.

What Tv Shows I'm Loving On Netflix

I am obsessed with Netflix. Not only can I binge watch a series without someone giving me the side eye or having to wait patiently. I can also find great new things to watch that perhaps I've previously missed. Here's what TV shows I'm loving at the moment.

  • Once Upon A Time - Set in the fictional town of Storybrooke, this series focuses on a clash of fairy tales and real life and all the mayhem in between. I love that this tends to my Disney obsessed side whilst still being an adult show. It's aired weekly on Netflix the day after it's shown in the US so you don't have to be concerned about spoilers.
  • Chuck - This is a series that me and Scott watched when we first got together and are loving rewatching it. Chuck is an ordinary guy, that is until all the government secrets end up in his head. Having all this knowledge and keeping it a secret isn't the easiest job. Especially when you can't tell your friends and family. This is a comedy series that we fell in love with.
  • The Good Wife - This courtroom drama is such an easy watch but such an addictive one at the same time. Alicia Florrick is thrown back into the workplace after her State's Attorney husband is caught in a sex scandal. What happens over the course of the seasons is enough legal drama and family drama to get you hooked.
  • Brooklyn Nine Nine - A quick fire comedy series about a not so highly ranked police unit. This series is one that will keep you laughing, but will also warm you to the characters and will them to succeed in each adventure they face.
  • Pretty Little Liars - To say I am obsessed is an understatement. This series is about 4 friends who start receiving messages from beyond the grave. Each episode is uploaded the day after it's aired in the US and this series is definitely controversial, especially with some of the secrets that have been exposed by the people of Rosewood.
  • Making A Murderer - If you've not heard of this documentary series then get on it. Spanned over 30 years, this documentary is about the false conviction and further arrest of Steven Avery. I don't wait to give too much away but there have been some heated debates, petitions and arguments about whether or not he was guilty for the crime he's been accused of.
What have you been watching on Netflix?

Laura's Book Club

I've always wanted to start a book club and I love recommending books to anyone and everyone. After much encouragement from people I've decided that a virtual book club would be a great thing to get people reading new things and building a great community.

I've announced the book for February's book club over on Laura Reads so hop on over and join in the fun! I'll be keeping up with everyone who want's to join in and I'm even giving a copy away to get someone started.

It's a great way to find a new book or author you may love and see what everyone's interpretations on the book are!

The Ordinary Moments - Looking Forward

Max is back at school and we are nearly back to our normal routine. The rain is pouring and we are in need of a deep spring clean and a trip to the dump in the hope we can start to replace some of our tired furniture. I'm finding it a bit tricky to settle into a routine that is working for me though, but I know that eventually I will get there. I think it's because I pile so much pressure and expectation on myself that I don't really know where and when to stop.

This year is going to be a pretty full on year for me alone. Alongside working daily at Waterstones and blogging on two websites, I'm starting a Social Media course with Digital Mums and ploughing on with my charity work with Young Women's Trust. I'm so looking forward with seeing what I can achieve in this year but the thought of trying to juggle it all is filling me a bit with dread.

I'm one of those people that always thinks I can do better. It's a blessing as well as a curse as I find myself achieving so much but also burning myself out. I saw a post that a friend linked on Facebook that Thought Catalog had posted titled "20 Signs You're Doing Better Than You Think You Are" and it really hit home. I pile all this pressure on myself to improve everything. I compare myself to all the amazing bloggers I read and beat myself up that I haven't got x, y and z that it just makes all the great things I do achieve seem worthless.

So looking forward I'm going to be more positive. Yes I can sit on Rightmove and dream of those houses that we probably will never afford. But by doing so I won't have those moments to sit back and think "damn I've done a lot and I'm a pretty amazing woman". Yes I'm going to spend my life juggling but It will be so worth it at the end of it.

2016 Blogging Resolutions

Each year I write down in my diary a list of things that I want to achieve on my blog for that year and 2016 is no different. With Max being at school, 2016 gives me so much more time to focus on blogging, writing and everything else that I one day hope will be a career. So here's a list of things that I want to achieve in 2016.

  • Improve my photography - Being a photography graduate I should be at my peak for taking photos but I still lack confidence in some aspects, especially composing food and products for review shots. I want to focus more on practicing still life photography and honing those skills whilst capturing Max being the cheeky chap he is.
  • Create a blogging schedule -  Christmas holidays have completely thrown me and I didn't post for nearly 2 weeks. It was completely unintentional but I realise that I need to have a bit of a better schedule for posting.
  • Schedule social media posts - I can guarantee that I forget to do this every time I post. I need to stay more on top of sharing my posts and others on social media. What's the point in using it if you aren't going to be social?
  • Join in with linky's - I love linkys. Some people think they are just an easy way to get views but I love them as you can discover so many new things. So I'm going to be joining in with some of my favourite linkys and starting one of my own over on the book blog!
  • Refine what I post - I don't want to be posting something for the sake of it. I want my posts to be interesting to read. To be filled with gorgeous photos and wonderful words. I found that over the past year or so I've been posting things that I don't even enjoy writing, just so I have something to post. So I'm going to take a step back and make sure what I post is going to be relevant.
