Rocky Road Angel Delight Sundaes

Angel Delight is a complete guilty pleasure of mine. There's nothing better than whipping up a batch and eating it whilst watching great TV. So when I heard there was a new flavour of Angel Delight (bubblegum if you wanted to know) I jumped at the chance to try it and come up with a great household favourite recipe. Rocky Road Angel Delight Sundaes.

Ingredients:
  • 1 packet of Angel Delight
  • 1/2 a pint of milk
  • 125g butter
  • 100g digestive biscuits
  • 150g dark chocolate
  • 150g milk chocolate
  • 100g marshmallows
  • 3 tbsp golden syrup
First you want to make up the Rocky Road as it takes the longest to set. You want to make sure you have a lined pan to pour the mixture in and enough room in the fridge for it to set.

  • Melt the chocolate, butter and syrup in a saucepan until it's smooth and gorgeous smelling.
  • Break in the biscuits and slowly fold together.
  • Do the same with the marshmallows.
  • Pour into the pan and pop in the fridge to set (2-3 hours)
You can add other things in such as raisins, chopped nuts or other bits of fruit. We've even added a handful of rice krispies before but we thought we would keep this fairly plain because of all the flavours.

In another bowl you need to mix up the Angel Delight. It's as easy as pouring the milk in with the powder and whisking until it's lump free. Then you pop it in the fridge until it's set, which normally takes a few hours. The smells coming from our kitchen were amazing!

Finally the time comes to serve it. Chop up small amounts of rocky road and layer with spoons of Angel Delight. The flavours are gorgeous together and it's a nice change from an ice cream sundae when the weather is turning a bit colder. This is definitely one of Max's favourite dishes. So much so that this is the second time that we have made it in a fortnight.

What's In My Bag?

I LOVE these types of posts. I'm a nosy person that loves to see what must have things people carry around and what books people are reading so of course I thought it was more than fair that I showed you what important stuff I carry around in my trusty bag!

  1. Zatchels Satchel in Chestnut - I've had this bag for 2 years now and used it almost daily I'm amazed that not only is it still held together but it also is still in amazing condition.
  2. Cath Kidston Purse - I bought this a couple of years ago in the sale as my purse always falls apart. I'm on the hunt for a new one now as the lining is starting to fray from the ridiculous amount of loyalty cards I have stuffed in there.
  3. Tangle Tamer - This beauty comes with me everywhere. I have really thin and wispy hair so it gets knotted so fast. This is perfect for smoothing out the kinks before work.
  4. Business Cards and Oyster Card - This little pass book is filled with business cards. It's easier to carry around than a box and I can slot my oyster card in there too.
  5. Iphone - I don't think this needs explaining do you?
  6. Black and White Washi - I always have a roll of washi tape in my bag. Normally to help me craft some cute things for work displays but it's also a life saver when I need to put things back together. Our letting agent loved that I had used washi tape to fix something in place (haha!)
  7. Book 1 - I normally have 2 books on me. One I'm nearly done with and one I'm starting next. I never know when I'm going to be stuck somewhere. This book I've just finished and it was AMAZING! I loved it and it was such a quick read.
  8. Book 2 - This one I'm only just starting. It's a mystery that unfortunately isn't out until next year but keep your eyes peeled!
  9. Passport - With moving I'm always having to show proof of identity for lots of different reasons for changing addresses. This means my passport is now firmly tucked into my bag for the time being.
  10. Nurofen - I never know when a migraine will strike. These seem to be the best things to dull the pain a bit before I can get my actual medication.
  11. Jessie Pop! Vinyl Figure - I always need something for Max to play with and he loves playing with our Pop! Figures that I have started to buy him some of his own.

So what do you have tucked away in your bag?

Room Tour With Cable And Cotton

Now we are getting settled in our new place I thought I would give a bit of a room tour of the one room that is 98% complete! All the other rooms are in a state of boxes and bit and pieces we need to sort out but we wanted to make sure that Max's space was perfect for him to play in.

When we moved we decided that he would get a single bed over a toddler one. It made sense and I loved picking out cool new bedding for him and managed to get some amazing bargains.

The space has allowed me to create a small play area, space to put a beanbag (when I've finished making it) and some small shelves for him to have some of his best books available. I love all the cute little knick knacks that he's collected from places so of course I love setting them out and displaying them so they are always easy to admire and grab. I'm hoping to hang a few more pictures, make some bunting and a couple of scatter cushions.

FInally we have his play bit. I've put some storage boxes under his bed with some of his toys in and set up his kitchen to play to his hearts content. I've also added these gorgeous lights that Cable and Cotton sent us.

I love these lights, not only are they available in an amazing amount of colour combinations but they are also ethically made in Thailand by a group of women that are paid well and have insurance incase they are unable to work for some reason. Each one is hand made so you know that your selection has been lovingly crafted with the greatest care.

They are so easy to put together, you literally pop the light into the ball and you're ready to go. We decided to pick the Sea Salt colour package as it was perfect colour combination for Max's room.

The website is so easy to use. You just select how many lights you want then either a -preselected colour pack or make one of your own. The possibilities are endless. They are beautifully packed and from £22.95 they are an amazing price too.

So there's Max's room tour. I hope you like it and I hope you check out the fabulous Cable and Cotton who kindly gifted us a set of lights.

Our Favourite Picture Books : September Edition

I've not done this for a while but thought with a new house and a new school year it was only fitting to restart our favourite book collection in a monthly series. Picture books are amazing things. Not only are they full of gorgeous illustrations, the stories are normally rich in morals and meanings.

A Possum's Tail - This tale is great! A walk around London in a book. Follow a boy and his dog along some memorable sights to the zoo and find some unexpected friends follow on the way home! Fairly long in the sense of a picture book but one that kids will love due to the interesting pictures.

Mine!- A stylish and bold story about sharing with two loveable characters. It's a great story for teaching children about the concept of sharing and also showing them that there might be something better around the corner.

Blown Away - A wonderful sing song rhyme tale about a penguin, a kite and their intrepid adventure. The illustrations are lovely and it's great to know that the author test drives the books on his kids first. One that will definitely stay on the bookshelf for years to come.

Specs for Rex - I love this book. I love Rex's specs. But Rex doesn't like them. This is the story of how Rex tries to hide his glasses but eventually must learn to love them. It's a great book for introducing glasses to kids at a time where the idea can be a bit overwhelming.

What books are your kid's loving at the moment?

Gluten Free Pizza Delight

Having been a bit of a gluten free foodie, I love it when I come across a product that really gets me excited. Luckily for me I found a great gluten free alternative so I can enjoy pizza nights with the boys!

In rolls Udi's Gluten Free, they have an amazing range of gluten free alternatives to suit everyones needs. We've already devoured their box cake mixes and their version of pop tarts. So when I saw that there was a pizza base box mix I jumped at the chance to buy it.

It's just as easy to make as any other pizza base mix. It took me moments to whip together and I part baked all the bases so that it was easier for Max to decorate. We fired them up with chunks of ham, strips of mozzarella and a massive dollop of tomato puree. After about 8 minutes in the oven it was all done.

Let me tell you that I'm never suffering by eating a normal pizza again now I've found this gorgeous gluten free alternative. A thin and crispy base with a good amount of chew still was the perfect blend! Onwards and upwards and hurrah for gorgeous gluten free treats!

Note: I was not paid for this post, I merely love the products!

A New Beginning and some fine art.

So we have finally got internet (hurrah!) It feels like we have been cut off from the world for ages whilst surviving on ropey 3G. But now we are back I will be blogging more than ever. Especially with all this home decorating that I am loving at the moment.

It's been a hectic few days of settling down, sorting out direct debits and forms and paperwork and unpacking with an energetic three year old running around. We are so grateful that we live really near Max's best friend so we have headed to the park with them a few times to keep ourselves sane.

One thing I have loved unpacking amongst all the boring bits (who likes unpacking pots and pans!) is the art work we have. We seemed to have amassed an amazing amount from all different small artists and big ones. The three above are from two different artists. One is a lovely friend of mine called Sara, and the other is the ever so famous Oliver Jeffers.

Some of our other favourite art pieces are the above one by my really good friend Neil Slorance, you've probably seen some of his stuff floating around the internet. He's dead good at what he does and I'm so proud to have amassed an amazing amount of his early stuff and more recent pieces. And finally below is our GORGEOUS piece by Doug Hyde. I spent more on this than I did our new washing machine but it's worth every penny. An investment for our future if you may. And the fact it's called No Girl's Allowed means that the boys love it too!

A Hectic Year

This past year has been strange. Being back at my mums, working the same jobs, trying to forge a future for ourselves. But I honestly couldn't thank my mum enough. She's been our rock throughout this past year. Encouraging us when we were down. Giving us moments to breathe and being that rock behind us not letting us fall. I don't think I can really explain how wonderful she is but I'm pretty sure she knows it.

A bit quiet..

It will be a bit quiet on the blog for the next week or so. I'm waiting for the internet to be connected in our new flat! Can't wait to make it our home! Keep your eyes peeled on my Instagram (user is _laura) for any updates.
