2014 in review

2014 has been an eventful year. One that has had it's fair share of ups and down but a year that we needed to happen.

We found ourselves living with my mum, stuck in a rut and not too sure of what we were doing. Our hearts said to run away to Scotland but our heads said that we couldn't make that happen without jobs and money.

Scott moved departments at work and is finally in a place he feels happy and comfortable. I went through hell at work and finally realised I was putting way too much into it.

Max learnt so much in a year that I can hardly believe only a year has passed. He's grown into such a rockstar. Going to gigs, festivals and hanging out with big stars (mcbusted and the blackout to name a few.)

I pushed my blog forward. Working with brands I could only dream of and really finding myself after going to britmums live.

I also said goodbye to some wonderful people (that includes you Hannah!) and said hello to amazing ones (Helen, Emma, Jeni, Sarah, Bex to name a few!)

2014 had it's moments of sadness but moving back to Bournemouth has really helped put a perspective on our future. We know what we want to do. When we want to do it and are more determined than ever.

So here's to 2015. A year of growing up, learning and new experiences.

Scott's Xmas Gifts

Scott is a hard man to buy for. Not only does he only want expensive electronics or smellies, they are either too expensive or boring. Luckily this year I have found him some amazing gifts with no technology in sight!

  • Stay Puft Pop! Vinyl Figure - Scott has been desperate for this to add to our collection of ever growing pop figures. This is oversized and stands at 6 inches and is oh so cute!
  • Baymax Pop! Vinyl Figure - Same goes for this one, except this is the glow in the dark edition.
  • Cards Against Humanity - We've been after this game for ages and I finally caved and bought it for him.
  • Scattergories - Each year I buy Scott a board game. This one is no different. Scattergories is a great game that requires a lot of quick thinking.
  • Beer Bods Subscription - This is a weekly beer subscription box. Each week they have a different beer to sample with a fact sheet. I got him a 12 week gift subscription!
What did you get the men in your life?

The Book With No Pictures - B.J Novak

Have you ever picked up a book and realised it's one of the most fantastic books you have ever read? I mean that hardly happens but when you do, its okay to shout from the rooftops and buy for everyone you know. And that's exactly what happened when this book fell into our laps a few weeks ago.

There's a bit of hype going on around this book. It's a picture book. But not. I mean there isn't even any pictures in it, so how will a kid even like it?

Well with every book, everything that is written down the person reading has to say. No matter what. So when you get words like BLORK and BADOINGY FACE they have to be read.

This is our favourite book of the year. Something that I never thought I would have said when I have such an obsession with Oliver Jeffers, but it's true!

Max finds this book hilarious. Laughing each time we read him it (three times a night) and shouting the words in the right places. A firm favourite and classic for the future.

Watch this video to find out how good it really is.

Thanks Puffin for the book.

Max's Xmas Gifts

With Christmas looming we have finally got all of Max's presents. We tend not to go overboard. Mainly because we don't have the room, nor the money for it. With a budget of £100 I am so happy so say we came underneath that and he is going to be so excited. His main present is the guitar. Something that he has been bugging us since christmas last year!

  • Olaf Onesie
  • Lego city arctic set
  • Lego city police chase set
  • Rockburn purple guitar
  • Mcbusted DVD
  • Guitar Strap
  • Snakes and ladders game

Robin Hood - Lighthouse Poole

Who doesn't love a bit of theatre? We are a bit of a theatre obsessed family, having been involved with it someway or another for as long as we can remember, so it is great to pop and see something awesome!

This year, Poole Lighthouse are showing the spectacular Robin Hood as their family panto and it doesn't disappoint. We were invited along to their press night to see how dazzling this show really was.

We honestly weren't really in the mood for a panto, I was down in the dumps over work, Scott was full of cold and Max was frankly overtired and a bit cranky. As soon as the curtains came up that completely changed though. We couldn't have asked for a better show to get us in the festive spirit.

The show is written and directed by Tom Bright, who also stars as Friar Tuck. The character that had us all crying with laughter with his pork pie obsessions and cross-dressing antics! It's a really well written show. One that allows room for the stars to laugh on stage as well as the audience, for improv where it's needed and things that the kids love to get involved with. Max was incredibly fond of shouting "BOOOO! GET OFF THE STAGE BADDIE".

Talking of bad guys, the evil Sheriff of Nottingham was played by the wonderful Patrick O'Kane. A theatrically trained actor who put his all into this role. You could tell there were elements of a Shakespearean villain channeling through his performance that made it something really special. My favourite part was his character falling in love with Friar Tucks female alter ego. There was definitely a spark between those two.

The female cast members really shone amongst the famous faces in their own right. An amazing vocal range from Alicia Woodhouse as Maid Marion and superb dancing from Stephanie Walker as Fairy Mary. Alongside that the guys playing Bill and Ben (Neil Smye and Dan Looney) made Max fall about laughing (especially when a pair of pink pants were involved!) and it really reminded us that local talent is rife and strong.

Finally we can't forget Robin Hood himself! Did you know he looks like Ed Petrie from CBBC? Max was cheering him on the whole way through and he kept the audience wanting him to beat the evil Sheriff.

I've always said that the formula for the perfect panto is a good helping of boos, cheers and the cast laughing at themselves. This was spot on. It was so good to see the great relationships that had formed on stage and they weren't afraid to adlib and have fun. I mean that's what a panto is all about!

Thank you so much Lighthouse for putting us in the holiday spirit, we definitely feel festive now.

Robin Hood is running at the Lighthouse until the 4th January, don't miss out!

#nextmaswishlist

Next is one of our favourite places to shop. We love the quality and price of their clothing and we have a few luxuries from their home department. So what better way to embrace our love than to create a Next Christmas Wishlist. I've included something for all of us as the boys would have felt left out otherwise!

For Me
I absolutely love these boots. I've got a thing about winter boots at the moment and the small touches on this are gorgeous. Also what winter isn't all about something warm and cosy? I picked the cape and the pyjamas as they are so different but fit the bill in keeping me toasty this holiday season. Finally I selected the black watch. I'm not the biggest fan of watches but this one seems to be delicate but understated.

For Him
Scott is a MASSIVE Batman fan, so I chose this top for him as it covers the logos across the decades. It fuels his inner geek without having to proclaim it to the world. I also chose him the gorgeous tan boots. He's not one for wearing boots much but these look a lot like trainers which means that he loves them!

For Max
Max loves anything Elf at the moment. We have our own Buddy sat in the tree! So this jumper is the perfect thing for him. I've been trying to hunt down a quality leather jacket for him to wear seeing as he is a bit of a rockstar. The chelsea boots are a great twist on normal boots and would keep his feet warm and toasty in the winter.

The Dream
Well a girl can dream can't she? I'm desperately wanting a sofa bed for our place and a bit obsessed with grey at the moment. This is perfect and fits in great with what we have so far in our new place!

Max is 4!

I can't believe that I have a 4 year old. We had a great day for his birthday. A breakfast of pancakes and strawberries followed by present opening. He was absolutely in love with his bike.

For the past few weeks he has been obsessed with having a bike, so for him to get one was the best present ever. It's been going with him to each room and he's been dragging it around as if it's a new pet! And surprisingly he's been able to master going forwards. He's a bit brake happy and hasn't grasped the concept of turning but that will all come in time.

I honestly can't believe I have a four year old. One that is eloquent (at times), happy (at times) and gives me so much joy. I can't wait to see what this little rockstar is like when he's older.
