Decathlon Oxelo B1 Scooter Review

Max has always loved scooting. We bought him one when he was two but it wasn't adjustable so he swiftly outgrew it. Since then he's been scooting uneasily on our adult scooter but we were on the lookout for something much more suitable especially for the school run which seems to be a tradition for most kids!

In came the Oxelo B1 Scooter from Decathlon. At under £30 this scooter is a bit of a bargain. It's aimed at kids age 2 and up as an introduction to scooting. Let's just say we love it! First of all the scooter is customisable. You buy the Oxelo B1 Scooter chassis and then pick a base plate in the colour of your choice. It's as simple as popping in 5 screws (screwdriver included!) and then off you go. Even for a diy novice this is easy peasy.

There are 2 different height levels on the scooter. Max is using the highest level but at 4 and a half he's still got plenty of life left in it and won't be outgrowing it any time soon. He's a pretty tall kid too so it's definitely a scooter built to last the test of time.

I love the fact that it's not too heavy. We've been testing it out on the school run twice a day and I don't feel like I'm lugging something around with me. It's cut our journey down by 10 minutes and Max absolutely loves zooming up to the school gates like the bigger kids do.

When he's not at school though he's taking it to the shops, to the park and basically anywhere he can get away with taking it (yup we even took it to the doctors- they were mighty impressed). I love the fact that the handle bar is easily removed. There's a stretchy band under the base plate that you can clip the handle into. It means we can pop it in the boot and not have to worry about it taking up space.

Max has always struggled with the tilt to turn scooters that other brands offer so when I saw that this had turn handles I knew it would be perfect. It means he can focus on balancing on the non slip base rather than tilting too far and falling off. I think this is a major selling point as not all kids are able to understand the tilt aspect whereas a simple turn of the handle is a lot easier to learn.

That's not to say that Max hasn't had a few tumbles. He's slipped a few times whilst zooming through the puddles and being a bit over confident. Luckily he's picked himself up and carried on zooming along. The easy grip handles mean that his hands don't slip off or lose control even in the rain. And the simple break on the back means that he has more control over the scooter and is becoming more confident every day.

We absolutely love the Oxelo B1 Scooter from Decathlon. It's an amazingly priced scooter and I've already recommended it to so many of my friends who are adding it to their kids Christmas lists.

Rain or shine Max has been on this scooter and I can see it as something that we are going to use for as long as it will survive with our dare devil! Thank you Decathlon for the awesome scooter!

Reflecting On University

I've never really had much time to sit and reflect about how university affected me and my future. Mainly because I pushed it to the back of my mind and I almost refused to acknowledge it. But when a Facebook memories thing showed me that 3 years ago I finally got my graduation certificate I thought it was time to put down my feelings.

How I Keep Organised Everyday.

As a mum who likes to keep herself busy I've ended up getting myself involved in so many different projects. It's amazing as I always have something to do with my day but it also means I need to keep super organised and on top of everything. One wrong move and my whole week goes out of whack.

I've tried so many different ways to keep on top of things but I've found writing them down is the best way. I keep on meaning to use my calendar on my phone but I always seem to forget. Writing it on paper seems to make it stick a bit better. so here's how I stay organised:

  • Diary: This is my 2016 one as my 2015 is so messy and embarrassing. This one is from Busy B who are one of my new favourite stationery companies. All their stuff seems perfectly catered for an organisation perfectionist. This diary is no different and has month to view, week to view, notes pages and tear out to do lists. It's handbag size so perfect to keep on me at all times.
  • Notebook: This one is an adorable one from Eloise Bindery who create beautiful hand bound notebooks. I'm always jotting down blog ideas or things to remember and find it's so much easier to do it in one notebook than in the back of my diary where it will probably get lost.
  • Weekly Planner: After trying everything from a whiteboard to a load of post it notes, this was my favourite option. I've had about 3 of these weekly planners from Lollipop Designs. I love the way I can separate all the blogs and work stuff from home life but then see it all on one page. I try and tackle one rooms cleaning a day and try and spend time away from a screen too. This really helps me tick things off the list. Each page is easy to tear off with a fresh new one underneath.
Of course I have some weeks when it all goes out the window and I feel like I don't know what I'm doing but having this plan in place allows me to work out what I am doing with my days, especially now Max is at school. But it also helps me keep on top of my tasks so I don't feel overwhelmed.

How do you plan your week?

How We Are Coping With School

So a week has gone by since Max took his first steps into his new classroom in reception. It's been a bit of a rollercoaster for us but the highs definitely outweigh the lows.

  • We've had no tears! Hurrah! We knew that Max would go into school without any fuss, he's made some new friends and will happily run off with them each morning, even going as far as to already organise play dates!
  • I've joined the PTA and am now officially a part of the committee. I didn't intend on getting that involved but when they mentioned they needed a blogger to do write ups on the events I could hardly say no.
  • We've settled into a great new routine. Max is now sleeping so much better and waking up at a sensible time to get ready and have a bit of a play in the morning. We've cut the school run down from half an hour to 15 minutes with the help of a scooter too. I'm one of those mums now.
  • He's not been told off! Well he may have had a few slip ups but he's even been the first one of the day to get on the rainbow board some mornings! I think we might have to adopt the same routine at home.
  • We've not had any separation anxiety. I think Max being in nursery most of his life has helped with settling him at school. We are those awful parents that high five as we leave him there.
I'm really surprised with how well we are coping. I did expect there to be some tears from at least one of us for one reason or another but he seems to have settled in brilliantly. We've got loads of things planned with the school and other parents soon so I can't wait to immerse myself in the school mum lifestyle.

I'm also really loving having a bit of me time. I know it sounds bad but I was getting so run down and under the weather from cramming almost a second job (two blogs and volunteering) into a few evenings a week. Having Max at school has allowed me to focus on different things each day and find myself a bit more beyond Max's mum.

I hope all the other new starter mums have had a successful few weeks.

Imaginext Power Ranger's Megazord

Recently Scott has been introducing Max to some of his favourite childhood shows. Now they watch everything from Pokemon to  Batman to Power Rangers together! So when the lovely lot over at Fisher Price asked if we wanted to review the Imaginext Power Rangers Morphin Megazord we jumped at the chance.

Scott has always wanted a Power Rangers toy like this from when he was little so to say it appealed to both the boys in the house was a bit of an understatement! This toy hit's the spot and will please everything from little ones like Max all the way up to the parents who secretly love playing with their kid's toys!

First of all though, I want to say that this toy is massive! Not in the intimidating sense as it packs away so neatly, but in the sense that it's nearly as tall as Max! When we took it out of the box he was amazed at how true to the series it looks. In the box you get the Megazord, the red and black ranger and also some power disk's and darts.

One amazing thing about the toy was that there was minimal packaging and preparation. We all know how much we hate to have to screw bits and pieces and follow a 30 page instruction booklet. Normally Max is hovering over us all impatient whilst waiting to play but this took no more than a couple of minutes and he was off in his own little world.

Max was eager to play and was keen to grab as many toys the same size as the Power Rangers and have the battle it out against each other. I think his first play with it was a whopping 3 hours which is unheard of in this house!

I love that there are panels that the Rangers can step in that have a reaction, that could be firing a power disk, or opening a trap. There were so many opportunities for play with this toy. Everything slots into place and tidies away really nicely. There are some great small details included and Max loved that there were no sharp bits or parts that he could trap his fingers on whilst he's playing.

Even though this is a big toy, it didn't feel big when he was playing as it didn't take up as much room as some of his other things. The top part of the Megazord spins around so you can angle it at different places, also the eyes light up when you move the head. Even though they were small touches they really made an impact and aided Max's play.

The power disks and darts fire at an impressive rate so make sure that it isn't positioned in front of any TV's or smaller children so they don't get hurt! Max loved to line the "baddies" up and make sure he won the battle once and for all.

One thing Max would have loved would have been a few more rangers but there is a variety of other sets to add to this Power Ranger Toy and it gives us scope to buy him a few more for Christmas or his Birthday.

Max has seriously adored this toy. It's kept him up late at night when he's been planning secret missions and kept him amused in the day for a quick 15 minute play before school.

Imaginext is a great brand that pulls together classic characters and themes to create wonderful products that bridge the gap between preschool toys and action figures. The toys are amazing as they have so many hidden compartments and things to discover that they can spend hours getting lost in their own imaginary world.

Priced at £62.99, this is quite a pricey bit of kit but the amount of hours gone into playing with it so far have outweighed what the cost is as there is so much scope for imagination.

#YWTResidential

As most of you are aware I am now part of the Advisory panel for the Young Women's Trust. Basically that means we meet up twice a year for residential weekends and help advise on the charity's work, give a young person's perspective and give our input on what we think the charity could focus on.

I was a bit nervous about the weekend, mainly because I only knew one woman and I'm not the best with speaking in big groups. I shouldn't have been worried at all though! Every single woman I met was amazing and inspirational in their own way. The ideas and opinions we all formed were so varied but all had the same meaning. Young women need a voice, need to be respected and need to be heard.

I think we all came away channelling our inner Beyonce and feeling like we could really run the world, now we've just got to get to work!

Cleaning With The Vax Dual Power Pro

Living in a rented property means that I spend even more time than normal making sure things aren't spilt or soiled on the floor. Any moment something drops I am scrubbing at it to make it good as new. But that's not to mean I don't miss parts or that the carpet get's a full deep clean. Max is a typical boy and leaves sticky fingers and show scuffs everywhere, no matter how much I try and stop it!

That's where the Vax Dual Power Pro carpet cleaner comes into play. We had a carpet cleaner a few years ago but it didn't seem to outlast my constant use of it (I was cleaning them every couple of weeks!). But since it broke I've been doing things by hand and I had definitely been feeling like it wasn't up to the usual standards.

As soon as it arrived I was tearing it from the box and racing to go before the door even closed on the delivery guy!

First of all it's a big bit of kit. It's something that any gadget lover or any clean freak would fall in love with. And I certainly loved it! The box and instructions were laid out really well, it only took a few minutes for me to piece it all together. I had a bit of trouble locking the handle into place but after a bit of wiggling it all clicked together. Inside the box is also a drawstring bag full of attachments, these include a hardwood attachment, a handheld attachment and one that is for upholstery with an extendable hose attachment too. For an added bonus there was also two bottles of solution. You are recommended to use the Vax branded ones so that it works fully and to it's best potential.

The actual process of using the cleaner is super easy. Similar with other cleaners you just add the solution and water to the top tank. The top tank uses a great system called Automix meaning that it only lets out the amount of solution you actually use, so no wasted solution finally! There is a trigger on the handle that you pull to release the cleaning mix meaning you can control how much of the solution is applied on the carpet.

It might look like a heavy bit of gadgetry but in all honesty it was really light and easy to work with. I always find that a push forward whilst releasing the mix then a pull back to "suck up" all the dirt is the easiest way to do it. It also means you don't do too many places repeatedly as it means it takes a long time to dry.

The Vax has some really heavy duty brushes on the bottom of cleaner that really get to work and break down all the dirt in the carpet. Whilst our carpets didn't look like they were that dirty, once you saw the grey dirty water filling up in the bottom tank you really got that hit of satisfaction where you know that something is getting really clean. As you can see below, the dark marks went after the first go and the carpet smells amazingly fresh too.

One thing I will note is that it is quite a noisy machine, but when you know it's not being used much I can look past the noise as it does such a good job.

Luckily it's fairly quick drying. Our carpet took less than an hour to be dry enough to walk over which is amazing as our last one took hours and resulted in lots of jumping strategically.I've not yet used the attachments, but I do have to attack my sofa once Max starts school as it's covered in lots of sticky finger marks from a summer holiday of fun!

We absolutely love the Vax Dual Power Pro Carpet Cleaner. It's something that has firmly earnt a place in our cupboard, and something that is coming out regularly. For just under £200 it seems like quite an expensive product, but to rent a carpet cleaner regularly can add up and amount to more than the cost of the Vax over the course of a year. So it's definitely a great investment for a family on the go like ours.

A Week Until School

I can hardly believe that in a week's time you start school. Where has the time gone?! It feels like only yesterday we were taking you for your first day at nursery when you were 9 months old, and soon you will be donning that adorable school uniform and running off into the playground.

You are a feisty one, you are so determined with what you want that I have no doubt you will achieve it. Telling me over the weekend that your dream was to stand on stage at Reading Festival and sing your little heart out makes me want to squeeze you tight as I don't want to think about you being old enough to be on stage!

You are so incredibly cheeky. I can see the school reports rolling in that you are smart enough but lack concentration. Something you pick up from your aunties and uncles who are now excelling in their chosen careers. You love to make people laugh and make sure people are happy. And I know whatever you do in class you will be sure to love learning.

You have such a big heart that I know you will have a multitude of friends. Despite not going to the same school as Kayden, we have so many moments planned with him that you will always be best friends. You always see the best in people and I know that you are going to embrace everyone for who they are.

You are a sponge, you love to take in all the information that surrounds you, quick to ask questions and even quicker to learn the answer. You amazed me last week by reading me a whole book yourself and immersing yourself in play worlds you've created in your head. Imagination flows through you and I know that you are such a creative little man.

Neither of us can wait for you to start. You are so ready for this next step and I can't wait to walk you to the school gates each morning and watch you start to grow wings and step into the great unknown. I love you little one, forever and always.
